French authorities have taken action against a Romanian charter company, Legend Airlines, following the grounding of a flight carrying 303 Indian passengers destined for Nicaragua. The flight, originating from Dubai, made a technical stopover at the small Vatry airport, where intervention by the police took place, according to statements from the Marne prefect’s office.
In response to the situation, local officials in the eastern Marne region have initiated a judicial investigation into the circumstances and objectives of this particular trip. Upon its landing at the Vatry airport for a technical stopover, authorities intervened, redirecting the passengers to a makeshift waiting area, which had been equipped with individual beds to ensure adequate reception, as highlighted by the prefect’s office.
The Indian Embassy in France promptly responded to the incident, confirming that their team had made contact with the passengers. In a statement posted on X, the embassy detailed the situation: “French authorities informed us of a plane with 303 individuals, predominantly of Indian origin, traveling from Dubai to Nicaragua, detained during a technical halt at a French airport. Embassy team has reached and obtained consular access. We are investigating the situation.”
The careful handling of the passengers’ needs was underscored by the transformation of the airport’s reception hall into a temporary facility aimed at providing optimal conditions for the stranded travelers.
