Reportedly, the MV Chem Pluto, a commercial vessel transporting crude oil from a port in Saudi Arabia to Mangalore, was targeted by a drone. The ship was around 217 nautical miles away from the eastern port when the drone struck and caused a fire. Fortunately, no casualties or significant damage occurred.

Defense authorities disclosed that the Coast Guard vessel, ICGS Vikram, was patrolling in the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone. Upon receiving news of the drone attack on the commercial ship, ICGS Vikram rushed towards the port and safely evacuated everyone from the vessel. This incident has triggered alarm within the port premises. Security forces have been instructed to maintain vigilant surveillance over all ships.

Contextually, a few days before the incident, an injured sailor was evacuated from a Maltese-flagged cargo ship by the Indian navy. The subsequent drone attack near the Gujarat port has naturally amplified suspicions.
